The American Red Cross of Northeast Massachusetts utilizes volunteers in every program and department within the chapter. Ranging from direct service volunteers in five programs, including Disaster Services and Community Health Education, to guiding the chapter's direction in leadership roles as members of the board of directors, volunteers are involved at all levels of a Red Cross chapter. Here at the local Chapter, we consider volunteers to be the heart of our organization.

Office Support
Have some free time during the day? We can really use your help and can work around your schedule.

Disaster Action Team Volunteer
* Provide emergency assistance and comfort to disaster clients on the scene of a fire, flood, or other major emergency.
* Respond locally, statewide and/or nationally to different disasters.
* Survey homes for damage and record losses to assess emergency needs.
* Arrange for temporary shelter and assist clients with emergency supplies of food, clothing and other immediate needs, such as replacement of medical prescriptions.
* Staff an emergency shelter and help with large scale feeding needs for disaster victims.  If professionally qualified, assist with the physical and emotional needs of victims
* Teach disaster preparedness in your community.
* Participate in local disaster drills, disaster planning and preparedness.

Blood Services Volunteer
* Greet blood donors at collection locations.
* Serve donors in the refreshment area.
* Provide administrative assistance.

Health & Safety Instructor
Instructors are desperately needed to serve the number of courses we provide to the community. Don't think you can be an instructor?...Think again. Most of our instructors started out just like you, taking a CPR or First Aid class. We can give you the added skills to teach back to the community.
* Teach CPR and First Aid at a Red Cross facility or community site.
* Train lifeguards and lifeguard aides.
* Teach babysitting skills to teens.
* Assist your neighbors at a Red Cross First Aid Stations at local community events.

Public Relations Assistant
* Organize participation in community events.
* Write press releases.

Special Events Committee Member
* Plan and help run our fundraisers.
* Write press releases.

Military Social Services Chapter Coordinator
* Help coordinate our program for outreach to the National Guard.
